Funeral set for MTA cop who died after bridge crash

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says a funeral will be held next week for a bridges and tunnels officer who died from injuries suffered more than a year ago on a New York bridge. The MTA says that Officer Thomas Choi will receive a full line-of-duty funeral next Friday.

BAYONNE -- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has released another series of updates on the ongoing $1.3 billion "Raise the Roadway" project on the Bayonne Bridge, according to Bayonne city officials. The construction project, which began in May 2013 and is slated to be completed by 2017, is designed to raise the navigational clearance under the crossing to 215 feet to allow larger, modern ships to travel under it.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says one of its bridges and tunnels officers has died from injuries suffered over a year ago on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Officer Thomas Choi died Monday at Staten Island University Hospital.

70-ton span installed as part of pedestrian bridge construction

A 70-ton, 184-foot span was installed Tuesday as part of a construction project to build a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Southeast Portland. When finished, the bridge will provide passage between two streets that end on opposite sides of the tracks: Southeast Rhine Street on the west and Lafayette on the east.
