First, a train carrying crude for Hess Corp. derailed and burned in central North Dakota on May 6, forcing the evacuation of 40 people from the nearby town of Heimdal. It was at least the third oil-car accident in North America so far this year.

A snowstorm that could drop as much as two feet in the Black Hills of South Dakota and a foot in southwestern North Dakota was moving in late Saturday night. However, as of about 9 p.m., the snow wasn't really sticking to the roads yet in Rapid City.
