Slide in oil prices has led to a drop-off in demand for the drilling equipment made by GE's Lufkin unit General Electric Co. plans to close a historic foundry and eliminate more than 250 jobs at its oil-field services unit in Lufkin, Texas, as the company deals with a drop in demand for drilling equipment in the wake of plunging oil prices.

4.6 Million Jobs Needed In Transportation Sector Over Next Decade, Report Says

Transportation sector employers, including those in the trucking industry, will need to hire and train more than 4.6 million workers to address market needs, employment turnover, and retirements over a period from 2012 to 2022, a federal report unveiled Aug. 24 found. Projections suggest that 417,000 of these positions will be established as a result of increased demands on transportation systems.

Daimler Cutting 1,500 Truck Jobs in Brazil as Demand Plunges

Daimler AG is eliminating 1,500 jobs at its Brazilian truck-making division as demand for commercial vehicles in the country shows no sign of recovery. Cutting about 13% of its workforce in Brazil became inevitable after industrywide truck sales in South America's largest economy plunged 44% in the first half of 2015, compounding a drop last year, said Florian Martens, a spokesman at Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler.
