According to new report by U.S. EPA, clean diesel grants aimed at cleaning up old diesel engines have greatly improved public health by cutting harmful pollution that causes premature deaths, asthma attacks, and missed school and workdays. Funding from Diesel Emission Reduction Act program has helped clean up approximately 335,200 tons of NOx and 14,700 tons of particulate matter. It has also saved 450 million gallons of fuel and prevented 4.8 million tons of CO2 emissions.

Refining profits that buttressed earnings for Exxon Mobil and Royal Dutch Shell as crude prices plunged are now slumping, further pressuring all of the world's biggest oil companies as they move into 2016. Global refining margins, the estimated profit from turning oil into gasoline and diesel, fell 34 percent in the fourth quarter, the steepest decline in eight years, to $13.20 a barrel, data on BP's website show.
