Pay TV subscribers pass 40 million in Russia

According to a report from IAA TelecomDaily, the number of pay TV subscribers in Russia passed the 40 million mark in the second quarter of 2016. Subscribers have increased by 740 thousand in the first half of the year.

Asia Pacific pay TV faces slowing growth

The Asia-Pacific pay-TV industry will grow at a 5.8% average annual rate from 2016 to 2021, according to Media Partners Asia (MPA). MPA projects pay-TV industry sales in Asia Pacific to climb from US$54 billion in 2016 to US$72 billion by 2021.

BT doubles UK pay TV market share

Research from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech has revealed strong gains for the major players in UK pay TV amid further turmoil for TalkTalk. BT, Sky and Virgin Media have all seen year-on-year customer growth, with BTs share up by 7.8 percentage points on last year.

Android Pay launches in Australia

(Telecompaper) Google announced the launch of its Android Pay mobile payments service in Australia. It's available everywhere contactless payments are accepted, including shops such as Coles, Domino's and 7-Eleven. Users need to download the Android Pay app to their phone and link a payment card to the account. The service works initially with Visa and America Express cards and MasterCard will be added soon. This includes cards issued by over 25 local banks, such as ANZ Bank, Macquarie, MyState and Teachers Mutual Bank. Merchants can start accepting Android Pay as long as they have a contactless terminal. Google said it will also launch in the coming days in-app payment with Android Pay, for services such as Kogan.com, EatNow and Deliveroo.
