The Airbus High Altitude Pseudo Satellite HAPS business which designs, builds and operates the world record breaking Zephyr solar electric UAVs is currently going through a rapid expansion process. Zephyr delivers a truly realtime satellite like capability and provides wide areas persistence at very low cost. Running exclusively on solar power and flying above the weather, typically at 65,000ft, Zephyr fills a capability gap between Satellites and conventional unmanned UAS. Airbus has a unique, demonstrated lead in the design, build and operation of HAPS allowing low risk access to world class development and an ability to evolve with advances in technology. A vacancy for a Software Development Lead Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Farnborough to work on the ZEPHYR aircraft project. You will manage a team software engineers tasked with the design, development and maintenance of flight control and flight management software for the Zephyr. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To manage a team of software engineers tasked with the design, development and maintenance of flight control and flight management software for the Zephyr. To ensure the software engineers clearly understand the requirements for the allocated subsystems, the interfaces with the avionics hardware, the design, coding and documentation standards. To ensure progress is being made across the entire avionics software and be able to identify problem areas in need of more effort or resources in a timely manner to maintain the schedule and design goals. To liaise with the other subsystems teams such as, power and propulsion to ensure that the best overall solution for the Zephyr system is being implemented. To ensure the Software development is conducted in accordance with Airbus Defence and Space processes and standards for certification. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Leadership of a Small Team of Software Engineers in the Development of Real time Safety Critical Software. Experience of Embedded Software. Experience of software development to recognised safety standards. Development of working procedure compatible with regulatory approval. To produce documentation including Test Plans, Test Schedules, Test cases, Test scripts from high level requirements and software design for embedded and desktop software. Liaising with the software developers and hardware engineers to identify resolve anomalous behaviour. The embedded software is being developed in C and so knowledge of this language is mandatory. Experience in automated testing and automated software test facilities with a view to informing decisions on future software testing strategy and test automation. Strong communication skills to engage with management technical colleagues. Ability to work to demanding timescales. The successful applicant will join the Microwave and Optical Instruments division within the Earth Navigation Sciences directorate to respond to the growth of RF equipment development. Within the Microwave and Electrooptical Detection department in the Microwave and Optical Instruments division TSPEF6, the Hyperfrequency Group is facing a strong increase in its workload following the acquisition of Front End Telemak, geolocation payload Kaband, and following the acquisition of METOPSG microwave radiometers, meteorological satellites that will connect and increase METOPs operational capabilities towards the end of the decade. The hyperfrequency group carries out the following RD activities SST radiometers, 448GHz receivers, as well as other millimetrewavelength designs. You will control hyperfrequency system and product development. Your mission will include the following activities Developing a hyperfrequency system, Managing an industrial team, Procuring RF equipment. More precisely, you will be responsible for the following activities Consolidating the detailed development schedule, Identifying and controlling the critical path, Maintaining the development plan and model philosophy, Maintaining the list of Long Lead Items LLI and the procurement plan LLI, Taking part in analysing the risks to development and to the schedule, Coordinating and carrying out the procurement of equipment, Interfacing between Engineering and AIV in order to take AIVs constraints into account, Coordinating and producing reports on development and equipment delivery. You will join the TL Thermal Product Eurostar CI department. Within the Toulouse Design Office, you will join the MechanicalThermalElectrical Engineering multidisciplinary product development department TSOEM45.You will be responsible for the performance financial and programmatic and development i.e. from the design stage up to the delivery of the hardware of the designated mechanical, thermal and electrical multidisciplinary products.
