Washington February 13, 2015; The AIADA newsletter reported that automakers buoyed by rising consumer confidence, falling unemployment, and low gas prices think U.S. auto industry sales could top forecasts, according to a report in The Detroit News. In January, U.S. auto sales were up almost 14 percent - and sales are strong in the first half of February.

A report issued by the joint Marketing Committee of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and the Truck Manufacturers Association showed the industry sold 18,662 units in January, compared to 15,647 units during the same month in 2014. "January has been traditionally a slow month following a hectic selling period in December but this year's January sales results is yet another milestone achieved by the automotive industry," CAMPI President Rommel Gutierrez said.

Russian new-car sales are expected to decline by 25 percent to 35 percent this year as a weakening ruble and a sharply declining economy hit demand, accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers said. Sales could be 1.52 million to 1.75 million units this year, compared to 2.34 million in 2014, when registrations were down 10 percent in annual terms, PwC said in a presentation.
