Sri Lanka's apparel exports were up by more than 5% in the first nine months of the year, new figures show, boosted by growth in demand from their largest markets - the US and Europe.

Weak demand weighs on Sri Lanka July garment exports

Sri Lanka's garment and textile exports fell during July on the back of lower demand from the US and Canada, according to official data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, but saw growth of nearly 5% year-to-date.

Sri Lanka cuts fabric VAT to support apparel industry

The Sri Lankan Government is slashing the rate of Value Added Tax on fabric imports from 15% to 5% in a bid to help the apparel industry, in particular, small-scale exporters.
