SRONs mission is to bring about breakthroughs in international space research. Therefore the institute develops pioneering technology and advanced space instruments, and uses them to pursue fundamental astrophysical research, Earth science and exoplanetary research. As national expertise institute SRON gives counsel to the Dutch government and coordinates national contributions to international space missions. An important ingredient is connecting this science with the space instruments SRON builds and collaborate with the worldwide user community. Our Astrophysics Program has a vacancy in its laboratory in Groningen for a twoyear position as Scientist with affinity for instrumentation fm vacancy number 1556 Project Outline Space Research is the place where space engineering meets science we provide a stimulating and vibrant environment in which creative solutions are developed to build world class scientific instruments fitting within stringent requirements in mass, power and launch conditions. It is in this environment that astrophysicists team up and combine their knowledge to build a scientific program that positions ourselves at the frontier of astrophysical research communities in the decades to come. And finally, this is the place where we embrace the sociology of large groups of very independent people. This all comes together in the SAFARI instrument for which is SRON is the Principal Investigator PI Institute. SAFARI is one of the three instruments for the SPICA satellite, which is now in the study phase of the ESA M5 competition, with SRON, apart from being SAFARI PI, also leading the international SPICA collaboration. To support the Principal Investigator and the project instrument scientist we are looking for an agile team player who likes to connect with the scientific community and who supports the PI in creating a viable and demanding scientific program. Organization of meetings, keeping track of ideas, doing outreach and actively participating in scientific research are amongst herhis tasks. Shehe is also able to distill, from the scientists thoughts, requirements on the instrument, working closely together with the project instrument scientist. PhD in astrophysics, preferably in the SPICA key areas of research protoplanetary disks, ISM and Starformation in galaxies, galaxy evolution. Knowledge of farinfrared instrumentation is considered a bonus.
