Fossil Falls 5%: No Mention of Apple, Upbeat on Coming Wearables
2015-08-12 01:43:16| Jewelry - Topix.net
Watch maker Fossil Group , which sells under its own brand and also Danish brand Skagen, this afternoon reported Q2 revenue that fell short of analysts' expectations, though it beat on the bottom line, and forecast growth for the year lower as well, citing the impact of the rising U.S. dollar , and slumping sales in some international markets . The company, however, was upbeat about its first wearable technology offerings, coming this fall, and didn't discuss Apple and its Apple Watch , which some might think could affect Fossil watch sales.
Lenovo passes Apple for top spot in global computer market
2015-08-07 10:29:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Lenovo took the top spot from Apple in the PC market (desktops, notebooks and tablets) in the second quarter, according to figures from Canalys. Apple had held the lead since Q3 2014, but slowing sales of the iPad hurt its market share in the quarter. iPads represented 70 percent of Apple's shipments in the period. Lenovo shipped just under 16.0 million PCs, some 240,000 more than Apple, giving it a 15 percent market share. The company was supported by its leading position in its home market China. The worldwide PC market fell 12 percent annually to 109.2 million units, with double-digit percentage declines affecting desktop, notebook and tablet shipments, the market researcher said. Apple, HP and Dell followed Lenovo, with marginal increases in their shares of the declining market. Samsung completed the top five, but experienced a slight dip in share as a result of slowing tablet sales and the scaling back of its participation in the notebook market.

Apple signs up 11 mln customers for free music trial
2015-08-06 12:46:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Apple has signed up 11 million customers to try its streaming music service launched a month ago. Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet software and services, told USA Today that the company was "thrilled" with the numbers, adding that 2 million customers had signed up for the family plan at USD 14.99 per month. Apple Music launched at the end of June and is offering a three-month free trial to all customers. The paid subscription costs USD 9.99 for a single user and USD 14.99 for up to six users. Cue said Apple also saw record USD 1.7 billion in transactions on its App Store in July, "with particular momentum in China". That brings the total amount paid to app developers to USD 33 billion, up from USD 25 billion at the end of 2014. Apple plans to roll out a broad marketing campaign to promote Apple Music over the coming months as the trial period comes to an end, featuring billboard, TV and radio ads that emphasize the service's ability to connect users with not just established artist catalogs but also emerging artists, the report said.

Skyworks: Buy The Stock After Apple Downdraft, Says Oppenheimer
2015-08-06 10:38:01| Electronics - Topix.net
Shares of wireless chip maker Skyworks Solutions are down $1.29, or 1.5%, at $87.40, pre-market, perhaps not surprising given the company is a prominent supplier to Apple 's iPhone , and Apple's stock is set to open again lower this morning, as warnings start to come out about a slowing in the iPhone outlook. Rushing to the stock's defense this morning is Rick Schafer of Oppenheimer & Co., who reiterates an Outperform rating, and a $120 price target, writing "we liked it at $110, we love it at $89."

Bring On the New Apple TV - Streaming Service or Not
2015-08-06 01:53:24| TechNewsWorld
I've been waiting for a new Apple TV from Apple for years, and I've been disappointed each time a major Apple event came and went without one. Plus, I've been waiting for Apple to come along and disrupt the cable/satellite TV bundling status quo with some sort of a la carte streaming service, also to no avail. Now I don't think that second wish matters much at all.
