Officials say 'no threat to public' after tritium leak at Browns Ferry plant

Tennessee Valley Authority officials confirmed a leak of water from Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in the past week contained levels of a radioactive element above Environmental Protection Agency drinking water standards. Approximately 100-200 gallons of water containing tritium seeped from the tanks at an estimated rate of a half-gallon per minute.

NRC ending enhanced scrutiny at Browns Ferry

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Monday it's returning the three-reactor plant to a normal inspection routine after more than four years of heightened scrutiny. A statement from NRC regional administrator Victor McCree says the three-reactor plant operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority has made significant improvements in safety.
