Indonesia introduces 10% VAT on Amazon, Google, Netflix and Spotify

(Telecompaper) Indonesia has introduced a digital CAT services tax on Amazon Web Services, Google Asia Pacific, Google Ireland, Google, Netflix International, Spotify, The Register reports. These companies will be required to collect a 10 percent tax on top of their charges and remit the funds to Indonesia's Direktorat Jenderal Pajak (aka the Directorate General of Taxes).

Google introduces Nest Wifi router as new smart home hub

(Telecompaper) Google is rebranding its Wi-Fi router under the Nest name, in an attempt to turn the device into a hub for the smart home. The new Nest Wifi offers a router with mesh networking points, as well as an integrated speaker in order to access the Google Assistant. The speaker is the same as the new Nest Mini, a rebrand of the Google Home Mini.

Google introduces free music service for Google Assistant-powered speakers

(Telecompaper) Google has announced a free, ad-supported music service on its Google Home speakers, or other Google Assistant-powered speakers. The deal echoes Amazon's earlier launch of a free, ad-supported digital music service in the US. With Google however, YouTube Music is already available on smart speakers in the US and UK, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Japan, the Netherlands, and Austria. It will soon launch in more countries.
