Sugarcane crushing operations across the country are about come to an end. Only 19 sugar mills are crushing at present. As compared to about 240.49 lakh tons of sugar produced between 1st October 2013 and 31st May, 2014, in the last 2013-14 sugar season, the Indian sugar industry has produced a record 279.57 lakh tons of sugar in the current 2014-15 sugar season between 1st October 2014 and 31st May 2015, according to a data by Indian Sugar Mills Association(ISMA).

Contract for $250m Oman sugar refinery project today

MUSCAT: A keenly awaited contract for the construction of the Sultanate's first sugar refinery is due to be signed here today, the initial piece of a much larger jigsaw representing a new agri-industrial cluster taking shape at Sohar Port and Freezone. The deal, worth an estimated $250 million, will be inked by Oman Sugar Refinery Company (OSRC) with China Light Industrial Corporation for Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation, the former's candidate for the implementation of the landmark venture.

Ethiopia to double number of sugar estates by November, eyes $500 mln revenue -official

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopia is on track to double the number of its sugar estates to six by November this year, a senior official said on Friday, and the Horn of Africa country hopes they will generate $500 million a year in export revenue.
