US existing home sales rise in September

U.S. homes sold in September at their fastest clip this year, a sign that the housing market is shaking off a slowdown that began in the middle of 2013. The National Association of Realtors said Tuesday that sales of existing homes rose 2.4 percent from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.17 million.

Car sales in Europe rose 6 percent in September, helped by automakers' price cuts and strong demand in the region's top markets of Germany, the UK and France. New passenger-car registrations in the EU and the countries of the European Free Trade Area increased to 1.27 million vehicles last month, industry association ACEA said today in a statement.
