Atos makes EUR 4.3 bln bid for Gemalto

(Telecompaper) Gemalto said it has received an unsolicited takeover bid from Atos worth EUR 46 per share in cash, which it will carefully review and consider. The offer was submitted on 28 November and will be valid until 15 December. Atos put the total bid price at EUR 4.3 billion, saying this represents a premium of 36 percent over Gemalto shares at close on 11 December and 42 percent over the company's one-month weighted average price. The company noted that the buy would be entirely financed through existing cash resources and fully committed external debt.
Docomo, Gemalto develop multi-profile SIM for smartphones, tablets

(Telecompaper) Japanese operator NTT Docomo, in partnership with Gemalto, has developed a multi-profile SIM for use through multi-carrier collaborations. The SIM is designed to allow users to switch between profiles, which include data such as contract information and telephone numbers, on their smartphone or tablet in each country. The commercial launch is scheduled for fiscal 2018, Docomo said.

(Telecompaper) Gemalto said that its profit from operations will fall below guidance in the second half of the year, ranging between EUR 200 and EUR 230 million compared with its previous estimate in April of EUR 300-350 million. The company said that revenue for the second quarter declined 9 percent year-on-year at constant exchange rates, impacted by reduced demand for its Payment services in the American market and its SIM business internationally.

Gemalto lowers 2017 profit target, posts 1% Q3 revenue drop

(Telecompaper) Gemalto lowered its target for 2017 operating profit, with a revised guidance in the range of EUR 500-520 million. In March 2015, the company had raised this target to EUR 660 million from EUR 600 million previously, an increase mainly driven by its acquisition of data protection specialist SafeNet. CEO Philippe Vallee stated that the outlook had worsened for the Mobile business unit and that payment card migration was slower than expected. The company reported third quarter revenue of EUR 753 million, down 1 percent year-on-year at constant exchange rates (compared to an increase of 3 percent in the previous quarter).
