Samsung develops 60GHz WiFi capable of 4.6Gbps, will be in devices next year
2014-10-13 17:30:55| Extremetech
Samsung has announced that it's entering the 60GHz 802.11ad WiFi game. Samsung says it has a commercialized version of 60GHz WiFi (aka WiGig) that's capable of 4.6Gbps, or 575 megabytes per second -- or about five times faster than current dual-stream 802.11ac devices. Samsung says the first devices supporting its 60GHz WiFi tech will be available in 2015.

Samsung develops 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology
2014-10-13 08:51:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics has developed a 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology of up to 4.6 Gbps or 575 MB per second. The technology runs five times faster than the 866 Mbps or 108 MB per second maximum speed possible with existing consumer electronics devices. Samsung said it will commercialise the technology next year. Unlike the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung's 802.11ad standard 60GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network. The technology removes the gap between theoretical and actual speeds, and exhibits actual speed that is more than 10 times faster than that of 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies.
