Reuters: China's carbon emissions did not peak in 2014 and are still increasing, China's senior climate change envoy, Xie Zhenhua, said at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday. Xie said the government's pledge that emissions would peak "around 2030" is based on national conditions and has a direct relationship with the country's stage of economic development. A study published on Monday said China's emissions, the world's highest, may have peaked in 2014.

Renew Economy: As Australias carbon emissions continue to grow, a new study has predicted that Chinas will likely peak before 2025 five years ahead of schedule and five years ahead of Australias 2030 target of cutting emissions by 26-28 per cent below 2005 levels. The paper, published on Monday by the Grantham Research Institute, said recent data showed that Chinas emissions were lower in 2015 than the year before, and that they may even have peaked already, in 2014 a year before the target to peak emissions...

Climate Home: The development of a national carbon market in China is perhaps the biggest single tool for slashing greenhouse gas emissions in the world. According to UK envoy Sir David King, who recently returned from Beijing, it could ultimately link up with the EUs emissions trading system (ETS). But recent data from Chinas seven regional pilots shows a surplus of allowances is depressing the carbon price as happened in Europe. That makes it a weak signal for investment in clean technology. The...

Economic Times: Hubei province, China's second largest carbon market, reported a 100 percent compliance rate in its first trading year, thanks to a decision by the local authority to postpone the deadline by which firms had to surrender their permits. All 138 companies obligated to cut their CO2 emissions under the Hubei scheme had complied in full by this week, the official local newspaper Hubei Daily reported. The deadline was originally set for May 30, but was postponed to July 10 as regulators dealt with...
