The Liberals say Justin Trudeau's national campaign co-chair did not break any ethical standards when he sent a detailed email Monday to people behind the Energy East pipeline with advice on how and when to lobby a new government - including if it happened to be a Liberal minority. In the email, Dan Gagnier tells five people at TransCanada Corp. to target the right people in a new government as quickly as possible so they can help shape either Liberal or NDP decisions on a national energy strategy.

Longtime Liberal MNA Robert Dutil quits politics

He'll now become the senior vice-president for the firm Canam-ponts - and has indicated that he will donate his severance bonus to a non-profit organization in the Beauce called Dutil, 65, was first elected in 1985 at the MNA for Beauce-Sud, stepped down in 1994, and won the seat back when he re-entered politics in 2008. Along the way, he has held several cabinet posts in the Bourassa, Charest, and Couillard cabinets.

Fournier reacted to new polls that show Trump's standing in the Republican primary has not completely collapsed after his attack on John McCain as evidence that "[i]f it was just on merits, he wouldn't be anywhere.

It will come as no surprise to anyone who's been at a Liberal Democrat Glee Club or said the words 'Liberal Democrats' to anyone in the Labour Party over the past few years that the general reaction to Jamie Reed's proposal that Labour and the Liberal Democrats merge has been a resounding 'no' from both sides. It's the sort of idea that people should dismiss as a non-starter, but because it was apparently seriously considered by both Paddy Ashdown and Tony Blair in the 90s, it's acquired a veneer of respectability and possibility that it doesn't really deserve.
