Belgian 5G auction not expected before end-2021, early-2022

(Telecompaper) It will be at least a year before a 5G spectrum auction can take place in Belgium, De Tijd reports following an interview with the responsible federal minister, Petra De Sutter. While a new government is in place and the political obstacles have been overcome, a number of legislative and legal steps are still needed to launch the process. The regulator BIPT confirmed the planning.

Czechia starts 5G spectrum auction with space for newcomer

(Telecompaper) An auction for allocation of 5G spectrum has started in the Czech Republic, reports the news agency CTK citing Barbora Havelkova, a spokeswoman of the national telecommunications watchdog CTU. The total starting price for frequencies in the 700 MHz and 3.4-3.6 GHz bands amounts to CZK 5.4 billion. According to the CTU, the active bidding phase should end by Christmas at the latest; allocations due to legislative deadlines will probably not take place until the new year.

Swedish regulator delays 5G auction start after court injunction regarding ban on Huawei

(Telecompaper) Swedish communications regulator PTS said the Stockholm administrative court has granted an injunction against the condition for auctioning 5G frequencies in the 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands that prevented Huawei from supplying equipment for the new standard of network. The regulator said it has informed the qualified mobile operators that the auction due to start on 10 November will not go ahead on that date. PTS will continue to analyse the court ruling and look at ways to begin the auction as soon as possible.
Portuguese regulator announces 5G auction regulations

(Telecompaper) Portugal's National Communications Authority (Anacom) has published the regulations for the 5G mobile telephony auction. The regulator estimates that the auction could raise EUR 237.9 million through the sale of spectrum in the frequency bands 700 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2.1 GHz, 2.6 GHz and 3.6 GHz. The licences are to be awarded to operators between February and March 2021.
