U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos in Manhattan denied FedEx's bid to dismiss claims it violated an anti-racketeering law and the Contraband Cigarette Trafficking Act by knowingly shipping nearly 400,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes to individual residences from 2005 to 2012.

N.Y. sues UPS for illegally shipping cigarettes

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has filed a $181.7 million claim against United Parcel Service Inc. for allegedly illegally delivering millions of dollars in untaxed cigarettes. The attorney general's court action was filed Tuesday in the U.S. Southern District of New York Joined by the New York Comptroller's office, it accuses UPS of colluding with Native American-run smoke shops in a scheme to illegally ship 683,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes over the past four years.
