Along with the opening this weekend of the new Orange MAX Line and the Tilikum Crossing, TriMet opened a new Lafayette Street pedestrian bridge Union Pacific Railroad tracks in the Brooklyn neighborhood. It runs from approximately 18th to 20th avenues and connects Lafayette Street, east of the tracks, with Rhine Street west of the tracks.

Lafayette leaders have struck a tentative deal that effectively guarantees the town's old grain elevator and silos aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The property, which sits on just under an acre at 816 East Baseline Road, has been something of a headache for the town for months, largely because no one has been able to agree on which section of the property belongs to owner Cathy Richardson and which belongs to the town.

Lafayette home sales up for first half of 2015

Lafayette Parish home sales for the first half of this year were up 4 percent compared with 2014, a sign of a healthy real estate market despite concerns of weak oil prices slowing the local economy. According to an analysis released Wednesday by Van Eaton & Romero CEO Bill Bacque, the Advocate reports that from January to June, 1,616 homes were sold in the parish, up from 1,555 for the same period last year.
