INDIANAPOLIS United Technologies has reportedly repaid state training grants as it prepares to relocate its two Indiana plants to Mexico. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence announced Thursday that United Technologies has paid back more than $380,000 to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, which it had awarded to Carrier Corp. and United Technologies Electronic Controls of Huntington previously.

Kentucky lawmakers completed work Friday on a bill that sweetens an economic incentives package in hopes of swaying AK Steel to rejuvenate idled operations at a northeastern Kentucky steel mill. Final action came on a 97-0 vote by the House, which sent the measure to Gov. Matt Bevin's desk.

They aren't guaranteeing how many of the 5,000 or so people they still employ in Delaware will still have jobs when they are done merging and then splitting into three successor companies in a couple of years. So Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and state legislators from both parties say they felt they didn't have much choice but to give these highly profitable chemical-makers millions in grants and tax concessions, in hopes they won't fire or move more people away.
