MTS launches Samsung Pay in Russia

The service enables customers to make contactless payments using Samsung smartphones at numerous sales points worldwide where bank cards are accepted.

MTS group revenue rises 5.3% in Q2, OIBDA falls 4.3%

(Telecompaper) Russian MTS Group announced that its consolidated revenues grew by 5.3 percent year-on-year to RUB 108.136 billlon in the second quarter of this year. OIBDA declined by 4.3 percent to RUB 40.885 billion, and the OIBDA margin dropped by 3.8 percentage points to 37.8 percent. Consolidated net profit declined to RUB 9.056 billion, down by 47.0 percent. The net debt contracted to RUB 274.5 billion. The subscribers was 109.0 milllion, up by 3.5 percent.

MTS exits Uzbekistan, sells UMS stake to state

(Telecompaper) Russian mobile operator MTS is exiting the Uzbekistan market and has sold its 50.01 percent stake in the mobile operator Universal Mobile Systems (UMS) to the government. The State Unitary Enterprise Centre of Radio Communication, Radio Broadcasting and Television of the Ministry of Development of ICT acquired the shares for an undisclosed sum. The state already held the other 50 percent of UMS. MTS said the dale is "due to a variety of business reasons and other circumstances", but did not provide further details. The company expects to record a write-off of the related assets of RUB 3 billion in Q3.
