Nature World News: California's Sierra Nevada snowpack has reached its highest point in five years, confirmed state water officials recently. Hot, Dry Weather Could Cut Into Californias Snowpack
2016-02-06 00:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: Hello, it's me. Words made famous by Adele could just as easily apply to what's about to happen in California. An unwelcome call is coming from across the Pacific for a state still struggling with drought. A ridge of high pressure is coming to the state, harkening back to the ridiculously resilient ridge of the past few years and butting into California's burgeoning love affair with El Nio. LA Times: A series of powerful snowstorms in the Sierra Nevada has resulted in a small milestone in drought-stricken California: The snowpack is now higher than average for this time of year. The storms, which are likely to continue into Friday, have fattened the mountain snowpack to levels California hasn't seen for two years, said Steve Nemeth, water supply forecaster for the state Department of Water Resources. The announcement was welcome news to a state that has struggled with extremely dry conditions...
