D'oh! Apple's New iCloud and iPhoto Will Cost Me Big Bucks

2014-06-12 14:00:00| TechNewsWorld

I just had a disappointing palm-to-forehead realization: Apple's iCloud investments will reduce the pressure for Apple to increase the storage space on the iPhone 6. I no longer have hope that the next entry-level iPhone 6 will start at $199 for 32 GB of storage. I'm afraid we'll be stuck yet another year with an entry-model iPhone 6 that will start at the $199 price point with a paltry 16 GB.

EC opens investigation into Apple's tax affairs

2014-06-11 15:19:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The EC has opened an investigation to examine whether decisions by tax authorities in Ireland with regard to the corporate income tax to be paid by Apple comply with the EU rules on state aid. The EC has been investigating certain tax practices in several Member States following media reports alleging that some companies have received significant tax reductions by way of 'tax rulings' issued by national tax authorities. The investigation will examine the individual rulings issued by the Irish tax authorities on the calculation of the taxable profit allocated to the Irish branches of Apple Sales International and of Apple Operations Europe.

EU starts in-depth probe into Apple's tax affairs

2014-06-11 14:11:08| InfoWorld: Top News

The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation into Apple's corporate tax affairs on suspicion that the company did not pay its fair share of income taxes. "It cannot be accepted that large companies do not pay their fair share in taxes," Joaquín Almunia, Commission Vice President in charge of competition policy, said Wednesday. Under the EU's state aid rules, national authorities cannot take measures allowing certain companies to pay less tax than they should if the tax rules of the EU member state were applied in a fair and non-discriminatory way, he said.
