Republic Services, Inc. announced that its Sand Valley Landfill Gas-to-Energy project in Collinsville, Ala. has been named Electricity Project of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency The EPA's Landfill Methane Outreach Program recognized the Sand Valley renewable energy project with the award at a workshop held yesterday in conjunction with the Solid Waste Association of North America's 38th Annual Landfill Gas & Biogas Symposium.

Duke Energy update: Green power program going slowly

Coming up to two years after Duke Energy announced plans to provide clean energy contracts for industrial-sized users, the pilot program remains untapped. In its first annual filing for the Green Source Rider, approved in December 2013, Charlotte-based Duke says it is in negotiations with data centers, manufacturers and college campuses as potential customers.

New county energy savings program is launched
