<![CDATA[DVD THEFT: A Battle Creek man, 30, was arrested after Battle Creek police said he stole DVDs and a cooler from Meijer Inc., at 2191 W. Columbia Ave. about 4:50 p.m. Friday. Store security officers said they saw the man loading DVDs into a cooler but were unable to stop the man when he attempted to leave the store. The security officer and a customer began to chase the man. The man fled across Helmer Road and eventually dropped the cooler but then disappeared. Police then found the man hiding in a freezer outside Lakeview Veterinary Clinic at 2265 W. Columbia Ave. He told officers he dropped the cooler because he was tired and said he had never stolen DVDs before. However police said the same man had done the same thing at the Meijer store on Beckley Road in Emmett Township on April 11. He told officers he was told the theft was easy and he planned to sell them on eBay. CHAINSAW HEIST: A 16-year-old Battle Creek youth was arrested on a charge of possession of stolen property after Battle Creek police said he was found with two chainsaws stolen from a shed on Hillsdale Street about 3:27 p.m. Friday. Police said they found the youth riding his bike near Washington Avenue and Goodale Avenue carrying a chainsaw and he had another one in a backpack. The teen said he was asked by another man to take the saws to a wooded area near Hubert and Wilds avenues and he would be paid $40. He said he knew the saws were stolen but that he did not take them from the shed. DRUGS: Battle Creek police arrested a woman, 20, on a charge of possession of marijuana after stopping her car in the 200 block of West Spaulding Avenue about 1:54 a.m. Saturday. THEFTS:* Glenn Valley Drive, 5100 block: purse ($200). * East Territorial Road, first block: TV ($500). * Family Dollar, 503 Capital Ave. S.W.: food ($19), one arrested. * Douglas Street, first block: medication (undetermined). * Riverside Avenue, first block: wallet (undetermined). * Wendell Street, first block: trailer, TV (undetermined). * Family Dollar, 503 Capital Ave. S.W.: merchandise ($35), warrant one. VANDALISM:* Greenwood Avenue, 100 block: car, house ($1,100). * West Rittenhouse Avenue, 100 block: car (undetermined). * Latta Street, first block: car ($250).
