Vodafone, Rakuten back SpaceMobile satellite-based broadband venture

(Telecompaper) Vodafone and Japan's Rakuten have become the new lead investors in a venture to expand mobile coverage using a mobile broadband network that will be broadcast from space. The low-Earth-orbit (LEO), low-latency satellite network from Texas-based AST & Science has been dubbed SpaceMobile and is aiming to be the first in the world to connect directly to standard smartphones, said Vodafone in a statement.

(Telecompaper) VodafoneZiggo had a relatively strong finish to the year, adding 13,000 new subscribers for a total broadband base of 3.36 million at year-end. That's nearly a third of its total customer growth in 2019, of 45,000 new broadband subscribers. Most of the growth came in the business market, where Ziggo has been targeting small businesses with its bundled fixed-mobile packages with Vodafone.

Verizon to offer free Google Stadia pack to new Fios broadband customers

(Telecompaper) Google is partnering with Verizon in the US to promote its new cloud gaming service Stadia. Starting 29 January, new Verizon Fios Gigabit internet customers will get a Stadia Premiere Edition starter pack free. This includes a controller, a free three-month Stadia Pro subscription for access to games in up to 4k/60fps, and a Google Chromecast Ultra to stream games to the TV set.
