Death toll from defective GM ignition switches rises to 109

DETROIT - The death toll from faulty ignition switches in small cars made by General Motors has reached 109. Victims' families are being offered compensation of at least $1 million each by attorney Kenneth Feinberg, who was hired by GM last year.

Approved death claims related to GM ignition switch recall rise to 104

The number of approved death compensation claims related to a recall of a faulty General Motors ignition switch has risen to 104, compared to a total of 100 one week earlier. The claims were approved by a fund set up by GM to compensate victims of a defective part in mid-to-late-2000s model cars that has led to a massive recall and a federal investigation.

GM Ignition Deaths Rise to 100 as Fund Aims for July Finish

There are 37 death and 589 injury claims still under review by Kenneth Feinberg, who was appointed by the Detroit-based carmaker to run a compensation fund for victims, according to the latest statistics released Monday. There have been 184 injury claims approved for compensation as of May 8, according to the update from the fund.
