The former CEO of an arena catering business who resigned in September after video surfaced of him kicking a puppy in an elevator has been charged with animal cruelty in Canada. Desmond Hague, the former chief executive of Stamford-based Centerplate Inc., was charged Friday with two cruelty counts as a result of the July 2014 incident in a Vancouver apartment complex.

Former Centerplate CEO, Des Hague, who was caught on camera abusing a dog in an elevator last July, has now been charged with animal cruelty. The surveillance video, shot in an elevator of the Private Residences at Hotel Georgia in downtown Vancouver, shows Hague kicking the dog several times.

Whole Foods Market came under fire yesterday by animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere who held in-store protests over the alleged mistreatment of hens by Petaluma Farms, a California company that supplies humanely certified eggs to Whole Foods. Direct Action Everywhere says they conducted a yearlong investigation of Petaluma and found hens injured, missing feathers, and being de-beaked.
