JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks Support the initiation of activities related to technology and product design and development for the telecommunication ground segment. Support the establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and generaldocumentation. Evaluation, support to negotiation, monitoring and control of contracts and activities related to technology and product development for satellite telecommunication ground segments. Preparation of inputs to status reports. Contribute to the preparation of technology and product developments workplans Support other members of TIATTG section on their projects and share expertise within the section Monitor market and technology trends and developments in the area of satellite communication ground segments Cooperate with the specialists in the other ESA departments Identify any issues during the procurement phase, running or closing of an activity, and flag them in a timely manner Support the preparation of Papers for Adjudication Committees or Delegate bodies IPC, JCB, with high quality standards Provide input for the Department Business Intelligence management system Support TIA Communication activities in line with the ESA TIA Communication Policy rules. Follow the relevant and applicable ISO procedures. Maintain the required level of confidentiality and security as defined in the ESA Security Directives Qualifications University degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and experience in satellite telecommunications user andor ground segment. Required knowledge Understanding of satcom ground segment architectures for broadcasting, broadband, trunking, backhauling and mobile applications. Expertise in some or all the areas of Terminal modem design FPGA and ASIC Communication protocols including quality of service aspects, upper layer techniques in IP and networking, air interface techniques, RF and Microwave including LNAs, SSPAs, TWTAs, filters, frequency converters, Ground antennas for both fixed and mobile SatCom systems Definition and implementation of ground solutions for satcom mobile systems experience working in industry, Management of development contracts for ground segment products and technology Specific experience in the satellite telecommunication commercial market development is desirable. Design, development andor exploitation of active RF units, such as o low noise amplifiers, o channel amplifiers and linearisers, o power amplifiers, o frequency converters, o digital signal processors A sound knowledge of multiple different types of active payload equipment and their functions at payload level is required Willingness to travel, when required Ability to work in an international working environment and be fluent in English a high level of written and spoken English is essential. It is expected that the service is provided predominantly onsite at ECSAT Harwell, UK.
