Nvidia uses its new Maxwell GPU and global illumination to prove the lunar landings werent faked
2014-09-22 20:24:20| Extremetech
Nvidia, with a rather gifted bit of marketing, has used the new Maxwell-based GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards... to prove that we did indeed land some astronauts on the Moon. By using Maxwell's new voxel-based global illumination (VXGI) tech, plus a version of Unreal Engine 4 with global illumination enabled, Nvidia reconstructed the famous photo of Buzz Aldrin climbing down the ladder of the Apollo 11 lunar lander in 3D -- and apparently, they found evidence that will forever silence the conspiratorial lunar landing loons.

The SLS, which will be the most powerful rocket ever built, will allow NASA to land astronauts on Mars and captured asteroids, and perhaps other planets and moons throughout the Solar System as well.

Meet NASAs new supersonic flying saucer, for future Mars landings
2014-04-11 14:07:06| Extremetech
No, fair citizens of Hawaii, the US government hasn't increased the level of psychoactive drugs in your water supply: That really is a flying saucer that just flew past your window at three times the speed of sound. Dubbed the Low Density Supersonic Decelerator, NASA is hoping that this flying saucer is the secret to eventually landing larger payloads on other planets -- such as sending a human exploration party to Mars, along with plenty of supplies. The LDSD is on a pretty aggressive schedule, with seven major tech demos over the next 24 months, and could be used in a real mission to Mars in 2018.
