Textile fiber prices have remained very firm in the past four weeks on the global market, mostly due to strong raw material costs. Demand was depressed by persistent uncertainties on the textile and apparel markets, partly due to ongoing trade negotiations between China and the United States. Our tables and charts offer a 3-month and 12-month price comparison of most used textile fibers, including cotton, polyester, viscose, wool, acrylic and nylon, all being available for download on a weekly basis through our historical csv file.

Polyester Fiber & Yarn Price Comparison: China vs. India and Pakistan (Monthly Report)

Polyester fiber and spun yarn prices have stayed rather unchanged in China, India and Pakistan in March with gross margins however moving differently from their level a year earlier. The fall of the Pakistani currency has boosted margins at spinning mills whereas the rise of the Indian rupee has weakened yarn producers in India. Our monthly report compares polyester staple fiber and polyester spun yarn prices in China, India and Pakistan, in both local currency terms and US$ terms. Gross margins of spinners are also calculated on a monthly basis. Historical data back to 2007 are available for download.

Spandex prices have slightly risen in the last four weeks, over a seasonal rebound of downward textile production. BDO and PTMEG prices have stayed frozen, but MDI prices have sharply rebounded.The level of spandex prices in April-May will depend on a series of factors which are below analyzed. Our monthly report covers spandex and PTMEG prices on the domestic Chinese market, with gross margin trends at spandex plants on a weekly basis. Price offers of major spandex producers are also released. Daily data over the last 12 months and monthly average prices over 10 years are available for download.

U.S. Apparel Imports: Latest and Long-Term Trends (Monthly Report)

US apparel imports have continued recovering in January, partly due to a rebound of Chinese shipments, in line with a shift from cotton apparel to cheaper man-made fiber apparel. Imports from Vietnam have also surged in January, however from a low level in the first month last year. Our monthly review covers US apparel import data, with historical trends being analyzed over the 2000-2018 period including cotton vs man-made fiber apparel, and China vs Rest of World (RoW) and vs Vietnam.
