On September 16th, the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan signed an exclusive license agreement with Taiwan Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. , a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. , allowing it to manufacture and distribute ITRI's STOBA, the world's only technology*1 to prevent hazardous lithium-ion battery thermal runaway which can lead to explosions and fires. ITRI, Taiwan's largest and leading R&D institution, developed this groundbreaking technology, with support from the Taiwan government, using nonconventional mechanisms and innovative materials to prevent thermal runaway of LIBs.

Taiwan to launch second 4G spectrum auction in Q3 2015

(Telecompaper) The Taiwanese government will start the second-stage auction of 4G mobile spectrum in the third quarter of 2015. The government expects to receive bids from six 4G operators, Want Daily reports, citing Shih Shih-hao, chairperson of Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC). The government expects to raise between TWD 15 billion (approximately USD 494 million) and TWD 30 billion (USD 989 million) from this auction. A total of 190 MHz of spectrum will be released, including 50 MHz for TDD-LTE technology and 140 MHz for FDD-LTE technology. As part of the first stage of Taiwan's 4G auction held in 2013, 270 MHz of spectrum was released for mobile broadband use, Shih said.
