(Telecompaper) FCC chairman Ajit Pai announced plans to auction key mid-band spectrum for 5G later this year. On 28 February, the FCC will vote on the plans to auction 70 MHz in the 3.5 GHz band in June and 280 MHz in the C band (3.7-4.2 GHz) in December.

Eutelsat withdraws from C-Band Alliance

(Telecompaper) The C-Band Alliance was formed in October last year, along with Intelsat, SES and Telesat. They proposed handling the clearance of up to 200 MHz spectrum in the so-called C band for use by 5G mobile services. The satellite operators said they would voluntarily release part of the spectrum in the 3.7-4.2 GHz range, in exchange for compensation from mobile operators for the costs of clearing the frequencies.

Eutelsat partners with Intelsat and SES in U.S. C-band spectrum proposal

Intelsat (NYSE: I), SES (Paris: SESG) and Eutelsat (Paris: ETL) have announced that they are aligned on a market-based proposal for the future use of the lower C-band spectrum in the U.S. Eutelsat has agreed to join a proposal initiated by Intelsat, Intel and SES.
