U.S. distillers' grains trade shrugs off Turkish rejections
2014-12-13 13:17:05| Agriculture - Topix.net
Rejections of U.S. distillers' dried grain shipments, first by China and then by Turkey, are isolated events and not a sign of broader trade disruptions to come, U.S. traders and industry sources said on Friday. The U.S. Grains Council on Thursday confirmed that Turkey has rejected three shipments of the feed ingredient and ethanol byproduct as it steps up enforcement of rules on imports of genetically modified corn.

In wake of China rejections, GMO seed makers limit U.S. launches
2014-11-25 07:30:19| Chemicals - Topix.net
China's barriers to imports of some U.S. genetically modified crops are disrupting seed companies' plans for new product launches and keeping at least one variety out of the U.S. market altogether. Two of the world's biggest seed makers, Syngenta AG and Dow AgroSciences, are responding with tightly controlled U.S. launches of new GMO seeds, telling farmers where they can plant new corn and soybean varieties and how can the use them.
UPDATE 1-ADM sues Syngenta over rejections of GMO corn by China

Archer Daniels Midland Co sued seed company Syngenta AG on Wednesday over sales of a genetically modified corn variety not approved for import by China, joining more than 100 farmers and exporters in pursuing damages from the Swiss-based company. The lawsuit alleges that Syngenta commercialized the MIR162 corn variety, also known as Agrisure Viptera, without creating an effective stewardship program to ensure the grain would not be shipped to markets that have not approved it.
Cargill sues Syngenta over China corn rejections

The move led to a series of rejections, from late 2013, by Chinese customs officials of cargos of US corn containing MIR 162 - a genetically modified trait cleared by Washington but not by Beijing. "Unlike other seed companies, Syngenta has not practiced responsible stewardship by broadly commercialising a new product before receiving approval from a key export market like China," said Mark Stonacek, the president of Cargill's North American grain and oilseed supply operations.
