The Australian sharemarket suffered its fourth day of losses, after a record trade deficit, disappointing retail figures and heavy writedowns from Metcash set a gloomy tone for Thursday's trade as the great bank sell-off continued. The S&P/ASX 200 index shed 79 points, or 1.4 per cent per cent, to 5504.3 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index dropped 77 points, or by 1.4 per cent, to 5511.3. Trading started the day optimistically, after US stocks advanced on speculation of a deal between Greece and its creditors.

Canada Stocks-TSX lower as uncertainty reigns, industrials weigh

Canada's main stock index pulled back on Thursday as investor caution about economic growth, geopolitical uncertainty and interest rate trajectories overpowered stronger-than-expected earnings from three of the country's biggest lenders. The most influential falls came from Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd, which fell 4.1 percent to C$208.80, and Toronto-Dominion Bank, which declined 1.1 percent to C$55.37 despite posting a surprisingly strong quarterly profit.
