Profits at Praxair, a Danbury-based manufacturer of industrial gases, dropped about 7 percent during first quarter due to pressure on international sales from a strong dollar and lower commodity prices, company executives reported Wednesday. Praxair also lowered expectations for revenue and earnings per share for the coming year during a conference call Wednesday.

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products reported a first-quarter profit of $125,000, or 2 cents per share, vs. a loss of $499,000, or 7 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. The Bridgeville specialty steel producer said sales increased 20 percent to $56 million.
NextEra Energy Q1 profits up as renewable energy projects grow

The Juno Beach-based energy company saw profits increase in the first quarter of 2015 as its subsidiary NextEra Energy Resources continued to add renewable energy projects. The results: "NextEra Energy Resources delivered excellent adjusted earnings growth and had an excellent quarter in terms of new contracted renewables origination, adding approximately 500 megawatts to its backlog," NextEra Energy CEO Jim Robo said in a news release.

Penske Automotive Group says that it had higher used-car sales in the first quarter of this year, but lower gross margins. Year-over-year, used vehicle sales through its franchise dealer chain increased by 6.7% to 48,057 vehicles sold; and same-store used retail revenue increased by 5.56%.
