Come and manage the next generation of satellite instruments for meteorological applications We are developing the second generation of operational polar weather satellites and instruments for earth observations, that will constitute the new reference for numerical whether prediction and climate monitoring for at least the next 2030 years. We are looking for an Engineer to provide technical management support for space borne instrument development activities covering from phase C up to launch and commissioning. These instruments are developed in cooperation with our partners ESA, CNES and DLR and will constitute the heart of a much wider global system, called the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG. The first satellite is due for launch in 2022 followed by five further launches, spaced in time to ensure continuity for more than 20 years. This is the opportunity to be part of one of the most important space projects in Europe for weather and climate forecasting. Why EUMETSAT? At EUMETSAT we procure, operate and control a fleet of satellites and payloads that support our mission. We therefore have multidisciplinary and multicultural teams of engineers, scientists and managers dedicated to ensure EUMETSAT core business prepare for the next generation of meteorological satellite, control and ensure 247 operability of our existing fleet of satellites, process, monitor the quality of remote sensed data, deliver and interpret these data to our users. This information is used to forecast weather, sea surface temperatures and air quality. Our use of technology is vital to everyday life. Your role With significant experience in space, ideally in remote sensing instruments, you will bring your technical and project management skills to help us in supervising the development of instruments in collaboration with our partners agencies. You will monitor and assess the performance of each instrument, ensuring that we are within our budget and schedule. You will follow the instrument from development, assembly, integration and testing through commissioning. Working with partners and suppliers, you will assess any issues that arise and use your expertise to contribute to the development of instruments for future missions. You need excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to manage multiple internal and external interfaces. We are a fast paced, operational organisation, working closely with users and partners from industry and space agencies. You will work with instrument experts and scientists to develop the technology and potential of remote sensing instruments. Using you ability to analyse complex information, you need to be able to provide clear and structured information for decision makers involved in this project.
