Americans want sea level rise prep, not reaction

2013-03-29 15:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Inquirer: Sea level rise is happening. In the last century, it's gone up a foot in Delaware Bay, more along the Atlantic coast of New Jersey. That changes everything, from the height of the twice-daily tides to what happens in storms like Sandy, which swept the coast and left more than $70 billion in property damage. So should we prepare for more, or take our chances and simply react if it happens again? An overwhelming majority of Americans -- 82 percent of those surveyed -- opt for preparation,...

China Daily: China's sea level hit a record high in 2012 due to global warming and land subsidence, threatening millions of coastal residents, according to a government report. The State Oceanic Administration report released on Tuesday said that last year, the sea level rose 122 millimeters more than the average level from 1975 to 1993, about 53 mm higher than 2011. "The rising temperatures from increasing greenhouse gas emissions and the land subsidence nationwide led to the high seas," said Liu Kexiu...

Ice Melt Means Uneven Sea Level Rise Around the World

2013-02-22 17:30:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Climate Central: Scientists say the sea level rise caused by climate change during the rest of this century will not affect all parts of the world equally, because of the ways sea, land and ice interact. They say parts of the Pacific are likely to see the highest rise. This region is where many low-lying island countries most vulnerable to sea level rise, like the Seychelles, are already struggling. Their peoples will need evacuation if the scientists' high-end predictions are correct. Northern Europe, on the...
