Huawei takes top spot in global smartphone market for first time in Q2

The market researcher estimates Huweai shipped more smartphones worldwide than any other vendor for the first time in Q2 2020, marking the first quarter in nine years that a company other than Samsung or Apple led the market.

HMD Global unveils first Nokia 5G smartphone and 3 entry-level handsets

(Telecompaper) Nokia brand licence owner HMD Global has announced the forthcoming launch of its first 5G phone as well as three other more affordable handsets. The Nokia 8.3 is a 5G-enabled smartphone running Android 10 with a Snapdragon 765G processor and a combination of either 6GB RAM/64GB storage or 8GB/128GB. It has a 6.81-inch FHD+ display, 4500mAh battery and a quad-camera Zeiss Optics array on the back, including a main 64-megapixel sensor, 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. There's also a 24-megapixel camera on the front.

Apple tops global smartphone market in Q4 on back of iPhone 11 sales

(Telecompaper) Apple surged past Samsung to become the world's top smartphone vendor in the final quarter of 2019 thanks above all to the huge popularity of the iPhone 11, according to the latest report from Strategy Analytics. The company shipped 70.7 million iPhones during the 3-month period ending in December, equivalent to 18.9 percent of the global market, up 7 percent from the 65.9 million units shipped a year earlier.

(Telecompaper) The global smartphone market returned to growth in the third quarter, rising 2 percent to 366 million units shipped, according to research from Strategy Analytics. This is the industry's first positive growth for two years. Samsung maintained first position with 21 percent global market share, Huawei rose to a record 18 percent, and Apple took third place with a 12 percent market share.
