Los Angeles Times: In a scathing letter, the city of Ventura has asked the company responsible for a nearly 30,000-gallon oil spill last month to shut down the pipeline involved in the leak and explain how it was reopened on Thursday with scant notice. The city also surprised Crimson Pipeline LLC on Friday with a legislative subpoena, which demands the company turn over by mid-July a raft of documents about the pipeline`s maintenance, inspections and memos from the June 23 spill. Agence France-Presse: A Japanese court on Tuesday issued a landmark injunction against the restarting of two atomic reactors, after the country's nuclear watchdog had given the green light to switch them back on. The district court in the central prefecture of Fukui made the temporary order in response to a bid by local residents to halt the restart of the No. 3 and No. 4 reactors at the Takahama nuclear power plant, a court official said. The debate revolves around an entity called the Export-Import Bank, which for much of the past century has made federal money available to promote U.S. exports. In December, as part of President Barack Obama's government-wide push to enact federal policies to counter global climate change, the...

2013-10-21 09:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
InsideClimate: In the six months since an ExxonMobil pipeline unleashed Canadian oil in an Arkansas neighborhood, nearby residents have had much to endurethe muck and stench of heavy crude, lengthy evacuations, sickness and economic loss. They've also been in the national spotlight, as the upheaval in tiny Mayflower, Ark., has come to symbolize the risks of aging and overlooked oil pipelines, especially when they're hundreds of mile long and carrying tar sands crude. From Illinois through Texas, many people...
