Alphabet underlying sales increase 25% in Q2

(Telecompaper) Alphabet, the holding company for Google and its other activities, reported sales of USD 21.5 billion for the second quarter, an increase of 21 percent from a year earlier. Excluding currency effects, sales rose 25 percent. In its home market the US, revenues rose 25 percent, and sales were 14 percent in the UK and 19 percent in the rest of the world. Google's search activities grew by 21 percent to USD 21.3 billion, and generated an operating profit of USD 6.99 billion. Revenue from Alphabet's 'Other bets' increased 150 percent to USD 185 million, while contributing an operating loss of USD 859 million. Google's total operating profit rose 24 percent year-on-year to USD 5.97 billion, and net profit increased 24 percent to USD 4.88 billion.

KPN Q2 sales fall 3.7%, profits increase on cost cuts

(Telecompaper) KPN reported second-quarter sales down 3.7 percent to EUR 1.68 billion, while EBITDA was up 1.9 percent to EUR 579 million thanks to cost reductions. EBIT increased 21 percent to EUR 205 million, and net profit rose 1.3 percent to EUR 162 million. Capital expenditure at the Dutch operator edged 2.0 percent higher at EUR 312 million, and free cash flow increased 9.5 percent to EUR 254 million. KPN maintained its outlook for flat EBITDA, capex of EUR 1.2 billion and free cash flow over EUR 650 million in 2016.

Lake Tahoe real estate saw an 8 percent jump in total homes sold during the first quarter of 2016, the result of an 11 percent increase in homes sold for more than $1 million. Homes selling for under a million were down 9 percent.

Contracts to purchase previously owned homes rebounded more than forecast in February as sales picked up in most of the U.S., a good sign as the spring-selling season approaches. The pending home sales index climbed 3.5%, the biggest gain in a year, after a 3% decrease a month earlier that was larger than initially reported, the Washington-based National Association of Realtors said Monday.
