EnergySolutions said state regulatory requirements for the long-term disposal of large quantities of depleted uranium are too stringent, going beyond the scope of even what the federal government requires and are in violation of Utah's "no more stringent" law. The company also wants to remove the condition that the U.S. Department of Energy retain oversight and ownership of the disposal site even if EnergySolutions does not exist and that separate funds be required for potential remediation.
