Southwest Airlines plans to run daily, nonstop flights out of Denver International Airport to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, officials announced Tuesday. Southwest on Tuesday submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the service.

Construction continues on an Environmental Services project to reduce sewer odors and increase the capacity of the Southwest Parallel Interceptor sewer system to accommodate future growth. The contractor will install about 1,000 feet of 24-inch concrete pipe along SW Taylors Ferry Road, 800 feet of 48-inch concrete pipe along SW Virginia Avenue, and permanent odor controls east of SW Taylors Ferry Road.

Passenger traffic rises on Southwest, slips on United

Southwest Airlines carried more passengers for more miles in March than a year ago, while United Airlines reported lighter traffic but offered a more upbeat forecast of first-quarter revenue. Southwest said Thursday that it carried 10.4 million passengers last month, up 5.7 percent from March 2014, and they flew 10.24 billion miles, a 6.7 percent increase.
