The Key person will perform system engineering activities such as Requirements engineering, which consists in requirement analysis and validation, requirement allocation, and requirements maintenance Functional analysis and architecture design applying system modelling engineering methods and techniques Subsegment components specification Interface and data structures and flows definition Design which results in an architecture, described by its complete functional, physical and software characteristics System analysis, which is performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness Performance of trade studies for assessing effectiveness, risk, cost and planning. The Key person is expected to perform the following specific tasks 1. Build models of Subsystem of the RA Ground Segment, capturing their requirements, describing the internal architecture and defining their external interfaces 2. Support the generation, review and maintenance of the documentation of the RA Subsystems addressing their architecture, functions, requirements and interfaces 3. Support the management of the requirements of the RA subsystem and Components, heeding on the evolution of the operational system and future systems, using DOORS 4. Categorise and link relevant Subsystem and Component requirements to the model for traceability 5. Refine the processes and working practices established for the application of the Model Based SE and the use of CORE 6. Support the administration, configuration, deployment and use of CORE licenses. MANDATORY SKILLS The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. Extensive experience in the analysis of systems applications and modelling At least 5 years demonstrated experience in the field of systems engineering and architectural design Space and Ground System engineering processes, and System and Software lifecycles and standards. Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods, techniques and tools Experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. CORE Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS. DESIRABLE BUT NOT MANDATORY ADDITIONAL SKILLS Previous working experience in system engineering aspects of SystemGround Systems for MeteorologicalEarth Observation Satellites would be an advantage. Experience in evolution management andor product line management of assets shared across organisational parts is desirable. The Key person shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple parallel tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communications skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Due to the nature of the position, the Key person shall have good interpersonal skills and proactive attitude with strong ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks of the key person will typically include the following Review with the HEDLab team the already identified test list, complement and prioritise as suitable Document the agreed list of tests and define a plan for their definition and deployment For each test Define, in cooperation with the relevant HEDlab team members the test steps and document them in the test management tools part of the HSOG SDE. The tests shall be translated from the existing operational GAIA specific formulation into a generic engineering formulation. The test assembly, i.e. which infrastructure or mission specific systems are involved in the test, shall be specified taking into account both efficiency as well as representativeness of the test. Where applicable the source from where the test has been derived shall be documented. Execute the test cases in the HEDLab environment in cooperation with the relevant HEDLAB team members, in order to confirm completeness and correctness. Investigate any issues identified either with the HEDLab Environment or with the systems in the test chain. Document the investigation results and cooperate with the relevant HEDLab team members for their solution. In case of SPRs represent HEDLab in the relevant CCbsSRBs. Support the HEDLab team responsible for test automation, by providing inside knowledge of the test scenarios and detailed steps. This may result in updates to the test specs to be implemented. Produce a complete test plan, incl. test results Report on the progress on a regular basis. For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Ground Segment Engineer HSO Engineering Development Lab at ESOC. Tasks This position covers a System Engineering service. The successful service provider will be assigned to the HSOGE Office, which is responsible for the HSO Engineering Development Laboratory HEDLab. HEDLab is a unique facility providing a representative, reference end to end ground segment and simulated space segment. The integration and testing of ground segment elements e.g. MC systems, ground station components etc., throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, from supplier to enduser, takes place in HEDLab. Also critical mission tests, e.g. RF compatibility tests between sc and ground stations, are performed from HEDLab. In addition HEDLab is the environment where integration and validation of new ground segment components, standards and technologies takes place at any maturity stage, allowing assessment, confidence building and risk reduction for target customer missions. HEDLab is also the platform for Independent Verification and Validation, both at ground segment subsystem and system level. An ESA internal HEDLab team has already identified a preliminary set of test scenarios suitable for the purposes specified above.
