Iliad H1 profits fall on weak fixed business, lowers cash flow target

(Telecompaper) Iliad reported a fall in first-half profits, as the weakness in its fixed-line business continued, it started to lose mobile customers in France and the company endured start-up losses in Italy. The company said it started a new sales strategy in June, which returned the fixed and mobile businesses to customer growth in the summer, and reiterated its target to improve margins over the full year. However, Iliad lowered its cash flow target for 2029 due to the problems at the fixed business.

(Telecompaper) There was no shortage of news in week 34, but it was not of such a nature that the share prices moved significantly. The earnings season continued, with reports from, among others, Sunrise (Switzerland) and Cyfrowy Polsat (Poland), and there was also some merger and takeover news. Our European telecoms index, with a gain of 0.5 percent, just beat the EuroStoxx 50 index, which closed almost unchanged.

Iliad wins 1 million Italian clients in 50 days since launch

(Telecompaper) French operator Iliad said it has gained 1 million customers in Italy in the 50 days since launching there on 29 May. The company's EUR 5.99 per month offering, which includes 30 GB of 4G data, was initially reserved for the first million customers but Iliad, which operates in France under the Free brand, said the deal will now be opened to a further 200,000 customers.

(Telecompaper) The overall market, as measured by the EuroStoxx 50 index, ended the week down 1.8 percent. Of the stocks in our telecoms basket, Turk Telekom and Turkcell were hurt the most. The satellite segment escaped the downturn to end the week on top, with some double digit gains. Iliad's entry into Italy was the main news of the week, but investors appeared not te be too surprised. Year-to-date, Intelsat is the strongest stock in our European telecoms index at five times the value of the start of the year. Altice is the runner up.
