Intel will supply the chips for the next Google Glass

Intel Corp. will provide the processors for the next generation of Google Glass, signaling the semiconductor company is getting serious about entering the wearable technology market. Citing unnamed sources, the Wall Street Journal reported that Intel will replace Texas Instruments as the supplier of chips for Google Glass, whose next release is expected in 2015.

A new version of Google Glass is coming in 2015, with an Intel x86 chip inside

The next version of Google Glass, which is due out sometime in 2015, will be powered by an Intel x86 chip -- rather than the Texas Instruments ARM chip that helms the current Glass Explorer Edition hardware. Presumably this is either a move to boost the performance and battery life of Glass considerably -- or Intel cut a very generous deal that encouraged Google to move away from ARM for its wearable computing efforts.
