The new device will run on Android and will come integrated with Google Now, the company's intelligent personal assistant, a person familiar with the situation said. Google has been working to reduce power consumption on the smartwatch so it will require less frequent battery charges, the person said. The integration of Google Now will also allow the new smartwatch to communicate with other devices such as a smartphone and draw information from a user's email, the person said. The device may be ready for mass production within months, the person said. The Wall Street Journal first reported in June that Google was interested in developing a wristwatchlike device.
