Investigators from Canada's safety watchdog have been sent to the site of a Canadian National Railway crude oil train derailment and fire in northern Ontario, the agency said on Sunday. A sign informs commuters of no service due to a CP labour dispute, at an empty train station at Vaudreuil-Dorion, just off the island of Montreal, February 15, 2015.

Train Carrying Crude Oil Derails in Ontario

A train carrying crude oil and operated by Canadian National Railway Co. derailed near the town of Timmins in northern Ontario just before midnight on Saturday, causing a fire but resulting in no reported injuries.

Splattering of red ink in the oilpatch as crude rout weighs on quarterly results

There was a splattering of red ink in the oilpatch Thursday, as the steep drop in oil prices weighed on the bottom lines of some of the energy sector's biggest names in the last three months of 2014. Oilsands producer Cenovus Energy Inc. said it's cutting its headcount by 15 per cent, mostly contractors, amounting to 800 positions.

Environmentalists oppose DNR's approval of crude oil rail line through La Crosse wetlands

Midwest Environmental Advocates is raising concerns over the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources approval of a permit for Burlington Northern Santa Fe to fill a wetland in the La Crosse River Marsh in order to expand a rail line carrying crude oil through the marsh and the urban area near the Upper Mississippi River. MEA said the DNR decision is another example of how the process for approving controversial and potentially catastrophic projects, such as the expansion of a rail line for trains carrying crude oil through Wisconsin, did not allow meaningful public input.
